MACARTHUR LINKED AGAIN WITH TALK OF US- PRESIDENCY

Recd. 8.55 p.m. Washington. July 31 General MacArthur will return from Japan before the Republican National Convention in June, 1948, which will select the party's Presidential cand'date, declared Representative van Zandt (Republican. Pennsylvania).

Mr. van Zandt, who has been three times head of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, added: "Whether he will desire it or not. General MacArthur will be injected into the Presidential picture by the many persons in this country who admire him."

Senator Robert Taft (Ohio) has received the endorsement of his State's Republican Committee, but so far has made no formal announcement of candidacy.
