Jewish sources allege that British troops were responsible, but the police says the perpetrators were men disguised as troops and police who fired from armoured cars.” The police statement added: “Al armoured cars on official duty in lel Aviv were immediately recalled, and their guns checked. These had not be used.” The British military headquarters later said there were no troops in Tel Aviv last night.
