"Dastardly Cold-blooded Murder"
The Colonial Secretary (Mr CreechJones) giving details in the House of Commons which the British High Commissioner in Palestine (General Sir Alan Cunningham) had telegraphed him about the hanging of the sergeants, said. “In the long history of violence in Palestine there has scarcely been a more dastardly act than the cold-blooded and calculated murder of these innocent young men. “This barbarous crime is an outrage against men discharging service in fulfilment of international obligations. It must surely mean the Jews’ final condemnation of terrorists. We can only hope the latest act will stir the
Jewisii community of Palestine to root out tills evil from their midst.” Mr. Creech-Jones said an Army captain cut down the first body, and as he bent over the body a small bomb exploded and injured him in the face. Replying to a question about the introduction of martial law, Mr. CreechJones said that since the kidnappings strong security measures had been taken in certain areas and there were still areas where special defence regulations operated He added that he would consult the Secretary of State for War to see that the victims' dependents were properly cared' for.
