NEW BRIDGE IS APPROVED FOR THE SEVERN ESTUARY

Reed. 6.30 p.m. London, Aug. 1 The Minister of Transport has authorised the construction of a bridge over (lie Severn Estuary at a cost of £9,000,000. The bridge will be the largest in Europe and the third largest in (he world. The scheme, which will take several years to complete will be started next spring. The centre span will be 3300 feet long and have a vertical clearance for shipping of 120 feet in the centre at high tide. There are two side spans each 1000 feet long.
