FORTY-SIX CARS CONVERTED BY SEVEN YOUTHS
(P.A.) Wellington, July 24 Forty-six cars, of a total value of £18,044, were converted between April 12, 1947, and May 25, in Wellington by seven youths, the magistrate (Mr. Thompson) was told in the Children’s Court today.
Some of the youths were charged on a number of counts and others on only a few. The youths, whose ages ranged from 14 to 18 years, pleaded guilty to all charges. A total of 24 theft charges were also admitted by five of the youths. The value of the property involved in these charges was about £4BO, of which £286 13s 6d had been recovered. One youth was sentenced to three years Borstal; another was admitted to two years’ probation, and forbidden to drive a motor-car for two years; a third was sentenced to two years’ Borstal and the remaining four were put in the care of the Superintendent of the Child Welfare Department.
