LOGGING ROAD INTO WAIPOUA FOREST

(P.A.) Parliament Bldgs., July 24. In the House of Representatives today the Minister of State Forests (Mr. C. F. Skinner. Bullet), answering an urgent question by Mr. S. W. Smith (Opp., Hobson), said the immediate purpose of the metalled logging road at present being extended in the Waipoua Forest was to give access to approximately 3,000,000 feet of dead kauri located about 100 chains from the main road. The metalled logg.ng road, which was being kept to a minimum width, was necessary to provide access for fire-fighting equipment, would facilitate silvi-cultural operations. and these advantages would obtain whether the forest was placed under the State Forest Service, or any other adir r ist rat ion.
