FAREWELL TO POPULAR BANK MANAGER

(0.C.) Huntervilie, July 22 Mr. D. S. Morris, who lias now taken up his new position as manager of the Bank of New Zealand in 'taiiiape, was extended a farewell in the Huntenille Club last week when some 2UU members gathereu to pay tribute to a popular oanker and pub-lic-spirited citizen.

Mr. C. K. Hill, president of the club, who presides, expressed the regret of club memoers and the community generally at the transfer ol Mr. Morris, bui alt would join, he

said, in congratulating him on his weii-earned promotion. It could be truly said in this case that HunterVille's loss would be Taihapes gain and Mr. ridl concluded by wisning Mr. and Mrs. Morris every happiness in the future. Several other speakers referred in eulogistic terms to the community service of Mr. and Mrs. Morris and linally Mr. Hill made a presentation oi an occasional table and a silver entree dish.

In returning thanks, Mr. Morris said that in his six years in Huntervilie, lie had made many triendships which he would always value. . | his professional capacity anti in his public duties he had tried to do his best fo: the community and it was indeed pleasing to know that his services had been appreciated.

Opportunity was taken at the function io welcome Mr. Morris' successor (Mr. Hugh Hunger, ot Martinborough), wno has now taken over his duties. Bowling Club Gesture Prior to the departure of Mr. Morris, he was met by the members of the bowling club and presented with a pipe as a token of esteem. The presentation was made by Mr. W. A. H. Williams (president), who referred to Mr. Morris’ service to the club. Mr. Morris, he said, had been club champion and a past president and had won general popularity on the green for his sportsmanship and ids readiness to assist young players. After other members had spoken, Mr. Morris returned thanks. PRESBYTERIAN GUILD'S SOCIAL AFTERNOON Over £5O was raised at the social afternoon held in St. Andrew’s Hall last Wednesday by the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild. The function was accorded good patronage and competitions attracted large entries. The organisation was in the capable hands of the secretary (Mrs. Pitcaithly) and the stall-holders were: Mestiames J. Morrison, A. McAlley and A. V. Carswell (sewing), S. McAlley and G. Simpson (produce), J. Abel, Miss Woolford and helpers (afternoon tea). The judges were Miss Meads and Mrs. Craig (cooking), Mrs. Lyall (knitting), Mrs. N. Ross (sewing) and Mrs. L. Bull (flowers). Ball, of the staff of the Union Bank, left Hunterville with Mrs. Ball yesterday to take up his new position with the bank in Auckland. Early next month Mrs. Ball intends to fly to Australia to visit her parents. Mr. Ball's successor in Hunterville is Mr. McLean, who was on the staff here some years ago before he joined the army. The many friends of Miss Lambert, of “Selkirk,” Watershed Road, will be pleased to learn that she is progressing favourably after her recent operation in a Wanganui private hospital. Mrs. Hugh Hunger and family arrived in Hunterville yesterday to join Mr. Hunger, the new manager at the Bank of New Zealand. GENERAL ITEMS The shining cuckoo has been heard !in the Pukeroa district during the past tew days and its early appearance is taken as a definite sign of an early spring. Usually this migratory bird does not make its appearance until September. Some amusement was caused at the annual meeting of the Rata Dairy Company last week when shareholders were discussing “food flavour ' in cream. “It is the night’s cream which has the flavour," declared one supplier. “None of us would ever think of keeping the night's cream tor our domestic use,” he added. ■■What?" interjected another sup- ! plier. “You know we can't have I cream," he added amid laughter. The R.S.A. "Naah Nights" continue to be popular each Friday evening. On August 1 a ladies’ night is to be held, when servicemen s mothers, wives and friends will be introduced to the mysteries—or some of the mysteries—ot Naali procedure. On August 8 the Home Guards are to be the guests of the evening. FOOTBALL CLUB DANCE Invariably one ot the most popular dances of the season is the annual I inaction of the football club and to;,light's event will no no exception.
