WANGANUI LR C. AGAINST PRIVATE TRANSPORT CONTROL

A resolution expressing the opinion that the city's public transport system should not be controlled by private enterprise, but should remain a municipal undertaking, was carried by the Wanganui Labour Representation Committee at a recent meeting. The resolution was:

“This committee of representatives of a large section of the city’s workers is of the opinion that the public transport system of the city should remain in the hands of the Wanganui City Council as the system of municipal control benefits all citizens either directly or indirectly; further that this committee will strenuously oppose by the fullest legal means within its power any attempt to hand over the public transport system of the city to a private company.” According to the secretary, Mr. W. F. Cumminggs, there was full discussion on the question before the resolution was framed and adopted. The meeting was well attended.
