Packed House at Bible Class Competitions
There was again a packed house at St. Paul's Hall last night when the Wanganui Youth Movement’s 14th annual inter-Bible class musical and elocutionary competitions were continued. The standard of the performances was again very high and was the cause of favourable comment from the judges.
The results of last night’s competitions were:—
Humorous recitation, under 16 years.—Dawn Taylor (Methodist North), “Health and Beauty Class,” 1; Elspeth Walker (Ingestre Street Baptist), “Broadcasting," 2; F. Blackmore (St. Paul’s), “My Financial Career,” 3. .
Prepared speech. —Dorothy Dickie (Church of Christ), “Can Youth Lead?” 1; Pat Wysocki (St. Andrew’s), 2; Don Rogers (Wesley), ‘Should Immigration be Encouraged?” 3.
Dramatic test, 16 years and over.— Loys Wilson (St. Andrew’s), “The Doom of Stephanus,” 1; Margaret Sidey (St. James’), “The Stone.” 2; B. Grant (St. Paul’s), “The Little Blue House,” 3. Folk dancing.—St. Andrew’s, “The Old Mole,” 1; Wanganui East Baptist, 2; Ingestre Street Baptist, “Spanish Galliard,” and Trinity, “Hunsden House,” 3 equal. Dramatic test.—F. Blackmore (St. Paul’s), “The Fool,” 1; Dawn Taylor (Methodist North), “Eddie’s Service,” 2; Leslie Harre (Ingest r P Street Baptist), “Dick Turpin’s Elxllad,” 3. The two one-act plays presented were “The Sixth Hour,” by Ingestre Street Baptist. Bible Classes, and “Michael,” by Wesley Bible Classes. To-morrow nights programme, which starts at 6.30 p.m., consists of two one-act plays, impromptu speech, musical monologue, brass band instrument solo, and a humorous re- | citation, 16 years and over.
