MAORI FINED FOR ASSAULT IN RUGBY GAME AT NUHAKA
(P.A.) Wairoa, July 16 A climax to a recent incident at Nuhaka, when Senior-Sergeant McRae intervened in a Rugby game, refusing to allow it to proceed until a player left the field, was heard today before Messrs. T. Sweetman and T. Le C. Powdrell, J.P.'s, when Riki Smith, aged 34, a Maori, was charged with assaulting Douglas John Gordon during the progress of the NuhakaHurumai senior game at Nuhaka tin June 28.
Smith, who entered a plea of not guilty, was represented by Mr. M. H. Tonkinson and at the conclusion ot evidence was fined £2 10s and £7 10s costs.
