INTERESTING REP. RUGBY MATCH AT HUNTERVILLE THIS AFTERNOON
In view of the fact that both Rangitikei and Taihape lost narrowly to Wanganui last Saturday, the senior representative Rugby match between these two sub-unions at Hunterville this afternoon should be full of interest and closely contested. While two months ago Taihape had a comfortable victory when playing on the Recreation ground, Rangitikei to-day has a much stronger team and on Saturday’s showing should give the visitors a hard tussle. Only one change was made by the selector for to-day’s game after the Wanganui match. W. Kereama, who retired in the latter match with an injured leg, was not available and was replaced by J. Illston. However, the latter has now advised his inability to play to-day and up to last evening, the custodian's position was still vacant. It is possible that the selector might try out A. Renshaw in this important post. Renshaw always seems to play better on his own ground. The return Taihape - Rangitikei match is an annual affair for Hunterville and invariably draws a large crowd. A fine afternoon should see a well-filled grandstand at the Hunterville Domain this afternoon. The teams are:—
Rangitikei (green): Fullback (yet to be selected); three-quarters, J. Potaka, I. Barton (captain), B. Blunden; five-eighths, L. Gibbs, I. McDonald; half, R. Jackson; back of scrum, T. Green (vice-captain); middle row. C. Kereama, P. Shannon, C. Fittler, C. Cross; front row, P. Adams, W. Tocker, R. Edwards. Emergencies, A. Renshaw, D- Young, backs; R. Stevens, D. Hart, forwards. Taihape (maroon): Full-back, J. Berrett; three-quarters. N. Pearce, M. Thompson, J. Haitana; five-eighths, D. McCarthy, C. Wheeler; half, E. Rehia; back of scrum, R. Chesnutt; middle row, B. Anderson, T. Leary, J. Gregory, E. Oulsnam; front row, A. Berryman. S. Waterhouse, B. Goldsbury. Reserves, S. Woods, R. Kotua, forwards; J. Derbidge, T. Punch, backs. _ The referee is Mr. R- W.
