High Standard At Bible Class Competitions
There was a packed house last night at St. Paul's Hall when the Wanganui Youth Movement’s 14th annual interBible Class musical and elocutionary competitions were continued. The standard of the performances was again of a high order and tributes to Hie work of the competitors were paid by the judges. Tlie results of last night's events were :
Bible reading, under 16 years.— Dawn Taylor (Methodist North) 1, Elspeth Walker (Church of Christ) 2, Adrienne Coneybeer (Wanganui East Baptist) 3. Bible reading, 16 year.; and over.— Margaret Sidey (St. James’) 1, Loys Wilson (St. Andrew's) 2, Rosamond Beify (St. David’s) 3. Soprano solo, 17 years and over.— Fay Reid (Wesley), "I Heard You Singing,” 1; Betty Stent (Methodist North), “Song of Florian,” and Betty Hodge (St. Andrew's) "La Danza,” equal 2. Male solo, sacred.—Maurice Taylor (St. Andrew's) “Th e Holy City,” 1; Ron Wood (Methodist North) "O Pure and Tender Star of Eve,” 2; Graham Buxton (Wesley) "How Lovely are Thy Dwellings,” 3. Pianoforte solo, 18 years and over— R. London (St. Paul's) "Devotion,” 1; Margaret Wood (Methodist North) 2; Audrey Myers (St. Andrew's), Presto Movement from "Moonlight Sonata,” 3.
Boys’ solo.—Ken Tipper (Ingestre Street Baptist) "Bird Sony’s at Eventide,” 1; Russell Brown (St. Paul's). “Cherry Ripe,” 2; Peter Nielson-Vold (Wanganui East Baptist), “Turn Ye to Me,” 3.
The two one-act plays presented were “Martha and Mary,” by St. Peter’s Bible Classes and "The Highway and th e Way” by the Methodist North Bible Classes.
The programme for to-night's session, which starts at 6..30 p.m., will be: HumQjous recitation under 16 years, prepared speech, dramatic test 16 years and over, folk dancing, dramatic test and character test and two oneact plays.
