The Mayors of Ohakune, Taumarunui, Taihape, and Taumarunui Counties travelled to Paraparaumu last Saturday as the guests of Messrs. Cory-Wright and Salmon Ltd., N.Z. agent for The Vickers Corporation, and the N.Z. Railways Department on a trip to Christchurch In the Vickers plane which is at present visiting N.Z. The plane left Paraparaumu about 7 a.m. and'reached the Cathedral City about an hour later, the guests breakfasting on the plane en route. During the morning the guests were taken for a ’bus sight-seeing trip round the city and environs, and afterlunch, left in the Vickers for Paraparaumu. The trip was arranged principally to demonstrate to local bodies the practicability of co-ordina-tion between air and rail service. The trip was a unique, valuable and instructive one and served to demonstrate forcibly the importance which air travel must assume in the neatfuture. There were about 36 guests in the plane, mostly representatives of local bodies. OHAKUNE SCOUT TROOP ANNUAL OUTING. There was only a fair attendance of the public at the annual meeting of the Scout Committee. The meeting was presided over by the Mayor (Mr. Delamar) patron, who, in his opening remarks paid tribute to the Scouting Community in general, and referred to the good such air organisation can do. He spoke of the good work done by the committee, especially the secretary on whom most of the work falls, and said they were to be congratulated on being able to send two Scouts from this troop to the World Jamboree in France. Owing to this much hard work was entailed, especially in connection with Paddy’s Market, and such an achievement was worthy of congratulation. T*.e chairman's report was presented by Mr. Hussey, who referred firstly, to the loss to our committee owing to the death o. our much loved and respected patroness, Mrs. Delama r. Much work had been done during the year, which was an exceptionally busy one, owing chiefly to the fact that money was needed to send two Scouts to the World Jamboree in France. This necessitated holding urgent and special meetings on many occasions. A Scout Association was formed during the year combining Ohakune with Raetihi and Taihape, Mr. Hussey being elected chairman. At the end of March a combined camp was held at Waiouru when opportunity was taken to present Mr. Dave Scarrow of Raetihi with a District Commissioner’s warrant. This being the first of our local residents to claim this great distinction. Mr. Southon, treasurer, presented the llnancial statement which showed finances on the low side owing to outhaving to provide funds to send Scouts overseas. Scoutmaster S. Murdie presented his report, showing the troop in a healthy position and much work having been done. Cubmaster's report showed a decline in numbers in Iris pack, owing to the fact, presumably, of his not being able to put his time into it as much as he would like. An assistant is badly needed in this respect. Mr. and Miss Delamar were elected as patron and patroness. Mr. Delatnar accepting with thanks. The old committee were re-elerteil with Mr. Hussey, chairman, Mrs. Hurley secretary, Mr. Southon, treasurer. A souvenir ruler to each bov who 1 is going from this troop to the World I Jamboree, was sent by Act. County I Commissioner Baker, to Troop Leader Ronald Hurley and Patrol Leader I Clifford Drawer. These are much appreciated by the boys. Each ruler ' had an inlay of samples of .N.Z. woods
