AUSTRALIA RAISES PRICE FOR COPPER An increase of 30 per cent, or more in the maximum fixed price of refined copper to Australian producers operated from May 1. The Prices Commissioner said that Ihe new maximum price to producers would be £l3O a ton of refined copper, representing an increase .of £3O to the principal producers and £35 in other eases. There has been a substantial increase in costs since lhe price was fixed al £lOO in 1942, and recent examination of the producers' position showed that substantial rise in local selling prices would be needed to keep tile mines open. Apart from lower production through decreasing ore values the consumption of copper had greatly increased, and it was fairly evident that refined copper would have to be imported. On the present basis of overseas prir.es imports would cost between £lBO and £l9O a ton, against the new price of £l3O for Australian production. COMPANY DIVIDENDS Equitable Building and Investment.
