BOS MURPHY WANTS TO FIGHT EMPIRE MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION

(PA.) Dunedin, May 5. In an interview Bos Murphy stated his intention to make a trip to England in an attempt to secure a title fight with Vince Hawkins, present Empire middleweight champion. If he fights again in this country it will be for the purpose of gaining a title to aid him in his search for fights overseas. On his way to England Murphy intends to stay in South Africa for a time. A diamond merchant from that country who is interested in boxing saw the second Jones-Murphy fight and was of the opinion that a boxer of Murphy’s calibre would bb able to> command big purses there Murphy is not interested in going to America, immediately for, according to “Ring,” the American boxing magazine, he is not rated above 16th. among middleweights in the world. This is, however, the highest rating of anyone ether than Americans, but with the British Empire title in his keeping the way to championship fights would be Shorter. Murphy would rather fight as a middleweight, although he could make the welter limit. He said that according to the rules of boxing in this country, he is entitled to claim that he is Etill welterweight champion of New Zealand, for a champion must relinquish his title in writing. “This I have never done,” he said. Murphy has come south for duck shooting.
