Mr. H. L. Ryan has been appointed a member of the Teachers’ Superannuation Board. Detective F. A. Gordon, who has been stationed at Petone for the last two years, has been transferred to Masterton. He will leave next week. The Hon. Sir Apirana Ngata, the Very. Rev. J. G. Laughton and Mr. Johannes Andersen have been appointed members of the Maori Purposes Fund Board. Mr. Wilfrid C. Bergen, a former pupil of the Wanganui Technical College, has been appointed production manager of B.A.L.M. (British Australian, Lead, Manufacturers). He was a pupil at Wanganui Technical College from 1928 until 1932, when he gained the Beverly Science Scholarship at the age of 17, and left for Otago University- Three years later he was awarded the Sir George Grey Scholarship, being awarded honours in chemistry the next year. He then entered the firm’s service, and quickly rose to head chemist. Mr. Bergen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Bergen, formerly of Wanganui and now of Auckland.
