CITY BOWLING CLUBS CHAMPION PAIRS

W. THOMPSON AND W. J. GOODEY WON Tlie champion pair from each bonding club in the city participated yesterday in play on the Wanganui green, which was arranged to find a pair to represent the city sub-group in linals for the Wanganui Bowling Centres Champion of Champion pairs, to be played at Raetihi on Saturday, March 15. A pair from the Wanganui Club won yesterday, and will play for the city al Raetihi. The pair was W. Thompson and W. J. Goodey. Tlie players were welcomed by tile president of the centre (Mr. C. H. Ciinkard).

During the course ot play some vety good ends were bunt up, whicn brought applause from spectatois.

First round: Campbell and Fletcher (Wanganui East) 18, Ginn and Johnson (St. John’s) 14; A. Martin and J. Eiealey (Gonville) 13, W. Thompson and Goodey (Wanganui) 20. Second round: Fletcher (two lives) 15, Goodey (two lives) 17; Johnson (one lite) 26, Healey (one life) 15. Third round; Johnson tone life) 17, Fletcher tone life) IS; Goodey (with two lives) had the bye.

Final; W. Thompson and Goodey (two lives) 19, Campbell and Fletcher tone life) 17. NOTES ON PLAY.

In the first round, when Healey played Goodey, the score was 11 all with 14 ends played. From then on Goodey got well in front and won. Fletcher and Johnson had a verygood contest. Tw;o to Fletcher on the 15th made the score 12 all. In the remainder of the game Fletcher put on six points to two by Johnson. In the second round it looked as though Goodey was going to have an easy victory over Fletcher, as on the 15th the board rlad 14 to 5 in Goodey’s favour. Fletcher then began to assert himself and gradually crept up. Three to him on tlie 21st made them level, 15 alt. In tlie extra end Goodey obtained two. Johnson did not have much trouble in securing a win from Healey. On the 10th the score was 10 all. From then on Johnson ran out a coijii'ortable winner. In the third round Johnson played 11 to 10 in Fletcher’s favour. Two to Fletchcd on the 12th made the score 11 to 10 in Fletcher’s fapour. Two to Johnson on the 18th made them 15 all. A brace to Johnson on the 19th put him two in front, and the 20th brought Fletcher two. while on the 21st tie secured a single and victory by one point. Final. In the final all four piayers gave a very good exhibition of consistent bowling. All through the game there was never more than two points difference. First one then the other would be in front. This continued all through the game. On the 16th end Goodey was on the verge of securing the possible of six, but was defeated by Fletcher with his last bowl, which drew into third place. A single to Goodey on the 20th made the score 17 to 16 against him. On the 21st Thompson, lead for Goodey, got two in to score, while Goodey also got one in giving him victory by two points. The end built up badly for Fletcher to save.

TRADES APfl) PROFESSIONS BOWLING TOURNAMENT It has been found necessary to postpone the annual Wanganui trades and professions bowling tournament. It originally was set down to be played on two Sundays, beginning next Sunday, March 9. It has now t>een decided to play the tournament on March 23, and get it off all on the one day.
