REVIVAL OF PIPE BANDS

“Most of the centres are active once more, but we have not yet been able to get pipe bands in Taranaki and Southland to form their centres,” stated the report of the secretary, Mi. N. Johnston, to a special conference of the N.Z. Pipe Bands’ Association, held in Wanganui last night. ‘“The South Auckland and Wellington - Hawke's Bay centres have been very active in the North Island and have held several functions.” Of the association’s 81 listed bands, nine were in Auckland, eight in South Auckland, six in Taranaki, 26 in Wcl-iington-Hawkc’s Bay, 10 in North Canterbury-West Coast, live in South Canterbury, 10 in Otago and seven in Southland. Although there are 81 bands operating, on# 41 of these are affiliated.
