DIAMOND JUBILEE OF THE WAVERLEY BOWLING CLUB
The Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Waverley Bowling Club, took the form of a one-day tournament and visitors from many parts of the North Island were present. In his opening speech Mr. G. Aiken mentioned some of the foundation members and oldest members of the present club—Mr. H. W. James, F. Hodgetts, and Mr. A. Howie. In honour of deceased members a minute’s silence was observed. The day's tournament was held on the Patea, Waverley and Waitotara greens under perfect weather conditions, and results are as follows, with the names of skips only—the scores are total games won: —R. Bocock 3, A. C. Dempsey 2, H. Stewart 3, A. Olds 2. The winner at each green were W. Fitzgibbon (Ruapehu), J, Bell . (Pat»a), S. R Veitch (Hawera). In the semi-final Fitzgibbon drew the bye and J. Bell defeated S R. Veitch 9-6. Finals J. Bell defeated W. Fitzgibbon 15-13 and Mr. J. Bell's team from Patea were the winners.
Mr. A. Howie presented the trophies and each member of the winning t'eam received a rose bowl. The runners-up received a silver button. J. Bell’s team Included Bourke senr., K. Bourke and Aston.. ‘The runners-up, W. Fitzgibbon’s team, B. Young, S. Smith and S. Southam.
