DRY WEATHER. IN FEBRUARY (0.C.) Taihape, March 3. Only five days of rain were recorded in Taihape last month according to figures supplied by Mr. A. R. Fannin. The total rainfall for the month was 5.64 inches, and of the total 3.57 inches fell on one day, February 14, the day of the destructive storm which was widespread ever the North Island. The average fall in February over the past 42 years is 2.85 inches. The rainfall for two months of thpresent year is 7.19 inches, which compares with 1.66 inches for the same period in 1946. The highest maximum in the shade was 79.0 degrees and the lowest minimum in the shade 48.3 degrees. CRICKET ELEVEN CHOSEN. The following Taihape representative cricket eleven to play in the challenge match for the Main Trunk Shield, to be played in Taumarunui next Sunday, has been announced by ! the selectors, Messrs. R. New officers elected were: Patroness, Mrs. A. E. Russell; president, Mr. A. Weston; vicepresidents, Messrs. J. Goodwin and F. England; secretary,' Mr. A. Morton; executive, Messrs, j.. McLean, N. Miller, E. Morton, V. Hansen, M. Loughnane, L. Bai Jett, and G. Green; timekeeper, Mr. S. Lowry; clerk, Mr. F. R. r unon. CRICKET CHAMPIONS. In gaining an outright win over Hunterville, Mangaweka have won the district senior cricket championship for the 1946-1947 season. In its first innings Mangaweka compiled 145 rufis. The chief contributors were Merrett 62, Webby 27 and Burgess 18. Finney bowled exceedingly well for Hunterville. He sent down 19 overs for 36 runs and captured five wickets. D. Jackson also bowled with accuracy. Hunterville were disposed of for 59. They followed on and were all out for 77. V. Carroll, Webby, Rood and Burgess shared the bowling honours, DRY SPELL CONTINUES. ' More khan three weeks has elapsed since Taihape and district had a good rainfall, and gardens, lawns and pastures are showing signs of severe parching. While some farmers with a good water supply are not unduly worried by the continued succession of hot sultry days, others are more concerned, especially those in the back country, as streams and wells are extremely low. A good soaking rain would be appreciated right through the Walmarino area. DISTRICT PERSONALS. The mayor, Mr. E. Loader, and the town clerk, Mr. W. Hudson, are attending the Municipal Conference at Rotorua. Mr. James McHardy, who died in recent months was referred to at the annual meeting of the Ohingaiti Collie Club. The president, Mr. A. Weston, said the late Mr. McHardy had been a valued member ot the club and had associated with dog trials in the district tor a long period. As a mark of respect the meeting observed a brief silence.

Sister B. Brookes of the Wairoa Public Hospital is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. P. Brookes, Ohingaiti. Miss M. Taylor, New South Wales, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. A. Leighton, Taihape. Mr. A. Weston has been reelected president of the Ohingaiti Collie Club Mr. P. Maxwell will represent tht Taihape Swimming Club in the Wanganui Bridge-1.0-Boidge swimming race to be held on Saturday.
