TAIHAPE SHOW

SUCCESSFUL FIRST DAY PEOPLE’S DAY IS TO-DAY (0.C.) Taihape. Feb. 26. With entries drawn from a wide area, the Rangitikei Agricultural and I’astoral Association's 34th show opened on the Taihape Recreation Ground to-day in ..fine weather. Throughout the day an interested crowd thronged the grounds, there being plenty to s ee for both town and country people. "We have a splendid show, and all sections have been well supported," said Mr. H. A. Hintz (president). Justification for his remarks was easy to find. Preparations for the show had gone smoothly and the weather was fine. The judging to-day was confined to some horse sections and competitions. Chief interest to-day centred in the maiden jumping competition, which was won by F. McLean's Robin Hood. A clever dog triai display held the close attention of spectators. Dogs taking part in the trials were H. H. Harris' General Haig and Border Bill, G. R. Steedman's Don and W. Ross’ Fate. The judging of the sheep and cattle and other sections will take place to-morrow (Thursday), which is people’s day. The, show will be officially opened by Mr. B. Keiller, Palmerston North, president of tne Royal Agricultural Society. Results:— DRAUGHT HORSES.
