MR. W. B. TENNENT NEW CHAIRMAN OF EDUCATION BOARD

The new chairman of the Wanganjii Education Board is Mr. W. B. Ten nant (Palmerston North), who was elected yesterday to succeed the late Mr. E. F. Hemingway—chairman for 14 years. Other nomination for the post was Mr. J. C. Batt, of Wanganui. Voting was seven to one. In nominating Mr. Tennant, Messrs. N. Bromiley and I. W. Mudford referred to the fact that he was deputy chairman, had a full knowledge ot the affairs of the board and long and efficient service.

‘The time has arisen when we should have the chairman of a large board such as this in the same city where the office is," declared Mr. W. G. Price In nominating Mr. Batt. He spokq of Mr. Batt's record and his suitability for the position. A secret ballot was held, and after the outcome had been announced. Mr. Batt asked if the figures could be given. They were: Tennent, 7; Batt, 1.

"I feel it is an honour to be elected to this position," said Mr. Tennent In thanking fellow members for his election. “We are a board working for the benefit of the children and I hope that I will always have y<<ur support and that the affairs of the board will be conducted with dignity and decorum,” added Mr. Tennent. Mr. N. Bromiley (Waverley), was elected deputy chairman unopposed, on the motion of Messrs. I. W. Mudford and W. H. Brown.
