“WELL MADE N.Z.”
QUALITY PRODUCTION Wellington, Feb. ./. “Well Made New Zealand” should be a guarantee of good quality. This was the view of delegates to the conference of the New Zealand Manufacturers* Federation, who passed a resolution drawing the attention of manufacturers to the necessity of maintaining the highest possible standards of production in keeping with their national slogan. The remit, which came from the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, recommended that in future publicity, the public be advised that by buying branded goods they will be safeguarded to the greatest possible extent against inferior products. The mover, Mr. B. J. Masters (Canterbury), stated that there had not been much in the way of sub-stand-ard goods, but undue publicity was given to the production of these inferior articles, and when the Canterbury Association investigated the position it could not trace them back to the manufacturer, because the goods were, not branded. This was why the remit suggested that New Zealand-made goods should be branded, because branded goods, in which the manufacturer naturally took a pride, could be recommended. The president. (Mr. W. J. Truscott) said he would like to see something done in regard to the reintroduction of publicity for “Well Made New Zealand,” also determination of who was to be given the right, to use the slogan which should be followed up by policing (he maintenance of the quality of those goods.
