FLYING GOLD 50KFKldEo AT HAWERA CARNFORTH TAKES MAIN WOODVILLE EVENT

Flying Gold, just out of hacks, ereated a surprise when he annexed the Eginont Cup at Ilawera on Saturday. At Woodville, Carni'orth was responsible for an upset in taking the Woodville Handicap. The Herries Memorial Handicap resulted in a win for Regal Praise at a good price from Bramble Song. The main event at Dunedin, the Otago Handicap, wont to Great Coon. Palomino made it three in a row when he won the Hokitika Handicap comfortably at 'Westland. Cameronian showed his class by taking a double at the Wellington trots, including the Hutt Park Handicap. This gives him two wins and four seconds in six starts.

EAVOURITES DISAPPOINT RESULTS FROM WOODVILLE The weather was perfect for the autumn meeting at Woodville and there was a large attendance. The course was in first-class order and fast, and the totalisator handled £42,318 10s compared with £42,460 last February, and with £47,325 10s last December when the turnover was a record for the club.

CARNFORTH AT DOUBLE FIGURES At double figures Carnforth came home in the Woodville Handicap, finishing resolutely to hold off Perfect Peace by half a head. The latter was forced to cover a good deal of extra ground and this made the difference between winning and losing. Robin’s Reward, a neck away third, had the run of the race and’for him no excuse could be advanced. Paganini, fourth, went really well, with a light rider. Almost in line were Arco, Tavern Light, Moutoa Lord and Delinquent. LORD THEIO AGAIN

Ridden patiently in behind the two pacemakers, Flying Orders and White Cap, Lord Theio pulled an extra bii over the final 50 yards to win the Ruahine Handicap by hair a length. White Cap had a head to the good of Flying Orders with Lady Burford in fourth berth. Tanith was slow away and Specialist was always well back. Peter Gazelle was asked to cover come extra ground and finished fifth. THE SADDLER COMFORTABLY Always about fourth in the early running, The Saddler clearlv outstayed the Oringi Highweignt field, winning by one and a-half lengths from Village Squire, always in the first three. Half a head further back was Havildai, and then in a bunch came Imptint, C-rey Plume and Provider. THE MAIDEN PLATE A walk-in start suited Relampago in the first division of the Maiden Plate, and he was in the van for most of the trip, winning comfortably by three lengths from Jinny Jinks, who just held off Prcedency; finishing on. Arctic Circle, who ran greenly, was next, followed by Blue Pier and Erin’s Pal. Patiently handled, Sun Burn came through over the final furlong to win the second division well, though only by one length from the fast finishing Royal Flash. Earnbridge was third, a neck away, followed by Becaim and .Joe's Cobber. Te Aki was never going lon the right foot. RAGGED START A start which caught three parts of the field unawares saw Langspiel get a big advantage and she held it all the way to win by three lengths. Petre Mar, also well served at the start, hald off Bronstar, who sustained some injuries in running. Blithe Spirit, under the stick, was fourth, in line with Royal Cambria and then came Garry, Karamea and Neap Tide. The dispatch spo'lt what should have been an extremely interesting race.
