FULL INQUIRY TO BE MADE

(P.A.) Wellington, Jan. 20. A full inquiry would be held into the whole of the circumstances of the stranding of the Wanganella, stated the Minister of Marine (Mr. O’Brien) in reply to an inquiry this evening. The Minister said he visited the scene of the stranding and hoped that with extra tug power available, the ship could be got off the rocks, but indications to-day did • not seem very bright. I He understood the ship was holed

in the first two compartments, but that there was no water in the two aft compartments, which, if fine weather held, should make it possible to get the ship off. He sincerely hoped this was so. The Minister said the stranding of such a fine passenger ship was almost a national calamity at the present time, because of the number of people , wanting transport to and from Aus- ’ tralia. At present there was no ship • in sight to give the service the Wanganella could.
