PAREMATA WINS 1947 CORNWELL CUP

LONGEST CONTEST ON RECORD (P.A.) Auckland, Jan. 20. Paremata, sailing a great race with Akaroa, won the 1947 Cornwall Cup in the eleventh race of the contest this afternoon, being the first boat to gain three wins, Paremata had a margin of 20sec. over Akaroa, with Auckland 2mkx. 39sec. astern. The morning race, sailed in light, and flukey airs, saw Lyttelton gain her second win by Imin 2sec from Paremata. Never before has the contest gone to eleven races, and the ability of the crews is shown in th fact that. Auckland, Paremata, Ak>roa, Lyttelton, and Christhchurch each gained two wins prior to the final race. The Paremata crew, H. Montgomery and M. Williams, received a great ovation from the crews and spectators for their superior tactics.
