PARCEL-POST SERVICE RESUMED WITH U.S.S.R. AND EAST INDIES

Russia and the Netherlands East Indies are now on pai'cel-post services with New Zealand, the Chief Postmaster, Mr. D. J. B. Walker, advises. The Wanganui Post Office has been notified by the Director-General that the parcel-post service to the Union of Soviet Socialistic Republics has been resumed and parcels Up to a gross weight of 111 b may now be accepted. The postage rates are: — U.S.S.R. (in Europe), 21b., 6s 6d; 71b., 8s; 111 b., 9s 6d. U.S.S.R. (in Asia), 21b., 10s; 71b., Ils 6d; 111 b., 13s. Each parcel must be accompanied by Customs declarations, in duplicate and a despatch note. Articles sent commercially must be accompanied by an invoice and a licence obtained from the Soviet authorities. The Director-General advises that the parcel-post service to the* Netherlands East Indies has been resumed anu parcels up to a gross weight of 111 b. may now be accepted. The postage rates are: Up to 31b., 4s; 71b., 6s 6d; 111 b., 9s. Each parcel must be accompanied by the usual Customs declaration The importation of certain goods (plants, seeds, coin, cinematograph, films, etc.) is subject to the production of an import licence, and such goods should not be posted until the necessary licence has been obtained by the addressee. The use of two addresses on a parcel, one being that of a company or bank, and the other that of the person or firm to whom the parcel is«to be delivered after payment for the contents has been made to the first addressee, is prohibited.
