(P.A.) Invercargill, Jan. 6. When inspecting her husband’s rifle on Sunday night Mrs. Emma May Allott, aged 37, of 29 Landsdowne Street, Invercargill, was slrot through the head and died on the way to hospi* tai. Her husband, Mr. Lawrence Hearthcoat Allott, had been out shooting with friends on Saturday. Unaware that the rifle was loaded, he placed it muzzle upwards against a chesterfield on whlcn his wife was lying while he went for cleaning equipment. He heard a report and on returning found his wife with a bullet wound in her head. It is believed that Mrs. Allott took the rifle by the muzzle and dragged it towards her and that the trigger caught on the end of tne chesterfield and the rifle discharged.
