BOY WITH SCREW IN LUNG ARRIVES IN PHILADELPHIA

Recd. 6 p.m. Philadelphia, Jan. 5 Four-year-old John Turner, of Christchurch, has completed his 10,000-mile flight to the Temple Hospital for an operation to remove a screw from a lung. The hospital authorities said the boy will be kept under observation before an operation is performed by Dr. Chevalier Jackson some time this week. The boy apparently suffered no ill effects from the trip. Funds for the operation and the flight to Philadelphia were advanced by the Red Cross. The plane in which the boy covered the last stage of the flight landin a sleet storm. A groundsman had advised the pilcib, in view of the bad weather, to fly on to New York, but th e pilot replied; “1 will take a chance. This youngster needs it.”
