PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY

People's Day at the Canterbury A. and P. Association’s Metropolitan Show to-day enables the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club to enjoy a holiday fixture for the second day of the Cup carnival meeting. The third day will be held to-morrow and the meeting will conclude on the following Saturday. In this respect the light-harness sport is more fortunate than the Canterbury Jockey Club, which will have to extend its threeday Cup meeting over three Saturdays, November 23 and 30 and December 7. Naturally there are large fields engaged for to-day, the four-figure stakes ensuring that the best pacera and trotters in commission are brought together. Of considerable interest, in view of Ihe recent Wanganui meeting, is the presence of Nyallo Scott in the Australasian Handicap. Nyallo Scott won three races at Wanganui and was narrowly beaten in another. He was in a class by himself at the Auckland meeting which followed, winning three more races and being accounted unlucky in being beaten Into third place i n another. He has come very solid with racing during the past 12 months, and is expected to make the grade to the tightest class, Engaged in the Premier Free-For-All Sprint, the concluding event today, is Gold Bar, whose absence from the New Zealand Trotting Cup last Saturday robbed that race of a spectacular feature, as last year's winner could have been depended on to set a merry pace. Gold Bar has seven successes to his credit in free-for-all events and has equalled the record nr Great Bingen. Unfortunately, he was bleeding when he pulled up after a trial at a matinee meeting prior to the opening day at Addington, and his trainer has not taken any risks with him since. Gold Bar possesses such brilliant speed over short distances that he Is sure to be one of the favourites. First-day form may provide a reliable guide, and the following may be fancied:— Holmwood Handicap.—Quite RightEndowed bracket, Beverley Volo, Royal Dale-Royal Stone bracket. Electric Handicap.—Task Force, Globe Direct, Vimy Ridge. Australasian Handicap.—Nyallo Scott, Scotch Music. Dunmore. Dominion Trotting Handicap.—Medical Student.
