PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY ENDS SESSION IN WANGANUI
Final session of the 1946 Gerferal Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand in Wanganui, was held on Wednesday night. The meetings, which began last Tuesday and have cont nued daily, with the exception of Sunday, since, was attended by over 200 delegates. The depth of gratitude which the Presbyterian Assembly owed to the community and its own officials was expressed in a comprehensive vote of thanks which was carried by acclamation.
The motion expressed gratitude to Mr. Paul, the Church officer, the ladies the office bearers of St. Paul's Church, of St. Paul's for floral decorations, Mr. Thompson the organist, Mr. Tizard for musical arrangements the choir of the Turakina Maorj Girls' College; the soloists, choirs, and speakers of People’s Night, and also of the Youths Rally; the people of Wanganui for their generous hospitality; the city caterers for their co-operation; the organisers of the garden party and Moderators’ reception; the Mayor and citizens; the many institutions and sister churches of Wanganui who have made their buildings available and members welcome; Rev. R. Dunn for pulpit arrangements, and particularly Rev. A. C. McLean as convener and the members of the arrangements committee, and Mr. O. Warnock, who arranged accommodation.
The assembly also thanked the reporters and the Press, and the assembly press committee. The assembly then expressed its gratitude to the retiring Moderator, the Very Rev. J. W McKenzie, for his service to the church during his term of office; Rev. E. G. Jansen for his communion address, and the moderator for his inaugural address and for the gracious and kindly way in which he occupied the chair. •
