FOUR AMPHIBIOUS LANDINGS Recd. 7 p.m. Nanking, Oct. 30. Government troops made four amphibious landings near Chefoo, and a major battle appears to be developing for this Communist hasp. A Peiping despatch reports that 30,000 Communists sailed from southern Manchuria in jnuks to build up the Chefoo garrison. Government planes, destroyers and gunboats are attempt, ing to intercept the flow of reinforcements.

Generalissimo Chang Kai-shek has instiucted the Chinese people to abandon plans for celebrating his GOtli birthday and declared the instruction did not spring from modesty, "but is in line with my principle of frugality.” Chiang's 60th anniversary is regarded in China as a most important anniversary.
