Replying to a resolution from the Dominion Council df Federated Farmers regarding the representation of the federation on district committees dealing with the allocation of cement, building materials, and tyres and tubes, Mr. R. B. Tennent, ActingDirector - General of Agriculture, stated the Building Controller had advised that in few instances were cement allocation committees in operation. It had been decided, however, that where farmers were desirous of procuring supplies of cement for use in connection with their farming operations, they could contact an officer of the Department of Agriculture and have their application agreed to by him in accordance with the degree of priority which he considered it merited. This, said Mr. Tennent. should enable farmers who were urgently in need of supplies of cement to have their orders filled at the earliest possible date. “With regard to the question of tyre and tube committees,” said Mr. Tennent. “I am informed by the secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce, that the constitution of these committees provides for a farmers’ representative to be Included in the personnel and the records held by the Industries and Commerce Department indicate that the Farmers’ Union is represented on all the advisory committees established at those towns in which tyre and tube controllers are situated.” The Secretary of the Department of T ndustries and Commerce had further commented that applications for tyres ’vere considered and permits issued in accordance with the provisions of the nrioritv list, which clearly indicated the priority to he Riv*»n nrimarv producers.
