MANY APPLICATIONS

EX-SERVICEMEN WANT TO FIGHT PIRATES. Sydney, Oct. 29. While difficulty is being met in recruiting for the interim Army, mention in a Sydney paper that machinegunners were required to defend merchantmen against pirates in China seas brought a barrage of letters, telegrams, and telephone calls. Most were from ex-servicemen “fed up with Civvy street,” sick of rehabilitation and red tape, or simply looking for adventure. One disgruntled individual concluded his plea: “If I can’t get a job as a gunner, could you tell me how to get in touch with the pirates?”
