MR. GORDON’S CAMPAIGN There was a good attendance of electors at the Awahuri Town Hall on Tuesday evening, when Mr. E. B. Gordon, National Party candidate for Rangitikei, gave an address on the main political topics of the day. The candidate received an attentive heaving and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mr. Q. O. Wilson presided. To-night Mr. Gordon will address electors of Marton Junction in the Junction School, commencing at 8 p.m. On Saturday Mr. Gordon will make a tour of the Upper Wanganui River district., speaking at Jerusalem at 10 a.m., Ranana at 12 noon, Koroniti at 3 p.m.. and Parakino at 7.30 p.m. On Monday, November 4, Mr. E. W. Mere wether, National candidate for Wanganui, and Mr. Gordon will deliver political addresses in the Okoia Hall. MARTON SPORTS CENTRE In order to obtain the necessary deposit required l?y the Marton Combined Sports Society to purchase the Druids’ Hall for the purpose of establishing a gymnasium and sports centre, donations are being solicited from members of the community who desire to support such a recreation and training centre for youth in the district. Donations may be left with i the secretary, Mr. R. G. Kingdon. Donations totalling £44 14s have been received to date, and the secretary acknowledges the following through the “Chronicle": K. H. SOCIAL EVENING ' As a finale to a very successful i revue. “Musicales of 1946," the Marton Music and Drama Society held a social evening in the Parish Hall on Tuesday night. A well-attended gathering of members of the society and their friends enjoyed an evening of games, competitions and dancing. Mr. N. Shelton, in his usual finished style, rendered two vocal numbers, and an item was also given bv the quartet, Misses A. Ingle and J. Sherriff and Messrs. M. Gray and R. McFarlane. Music for the dancing was supplied bv Mesdames A. B. McFarlane. F. Hardy. Miss F. Gray, and Messrs. G. Dcnbow and A. W. Low. A dainty supper was dispensed bv the ladies, after which Rev. N. Williams, president of'the society, extended thanks to all for making the evening such a success. The luckv Gay Gordons was won by Miss P. Palmer and Mr. J. Wales. Messrs. M. Gray and A. W. Low were M.C's. AMBULANCE NOTES (By “First Aid.’’) At a meeting of the Ambulance executive committee held last week a suggestion was made that next winter an interchange of visits with the Wanganui Division be held, with the idea of training and spending social evening’s together. The committee also nominated Supt. R. L. Penn to act as representative on the Victory Hall committee, as the division considers that the officer in charge should represent the members. A recommendation to this effect ha-s gonn forward to the hall committee. The Crawford Cup is to be forwarded to the engravers for the necessary names to be recorded on it, and arrangements are to be made to have the team’s photograph taken, to enable n record to be hung in headquarters.
’ The report of the Commandery Chapter for 1945 is to hand. If any member wishes to see it they can obtain a eonv from the divisional secret arv of the Ambulance Division. Members of all the senior divisions are advised that next Monday, at 7.30 p.m , a lecture will be given to members by the Health Officer, Mr. J. Plowers, and this-should prove of great interest to the senior members. All members should endeavour to be present. The members of the Ambulance Division will nrobablv be having their re-examination next Tuesday, but this will be announced on Monday evening. Parades for the year are almost over, and as there are onv a few public duties to perform, members are asked to hand in their reports of accident or duties to the secretaries of the divisions. GIFT AFTERNOON * Miss Jean Cameron was to have been entertained at a gift afternoon to-morrow by the residents of Rata. Owing to unforeseen circumstances, this has now been postponed until Thursday. November 7. when it will be held in the Rata Hall. PERSONAL Mr. C. W. Horniblow. traffic inspector, who is under transfer to Thames, will leave Marlon to take up his new duties next Tuesday. He will be succeeded in Marton by Mr. W. C. Shaw, Wellington. Mr. R. W. Sturt. F.R.G.S., a missionary from Mongolia, is at present visiting Marton. He is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. Johnston. Tutaenui Road, and is to deliver an address in the Gospel Hall, Marton, to-night on his experiences. COMING EVENTS. Thursday, November 7: Rata Patriotic SocieTy's final welcome homo dance to servicemen in Rata Hall. Saturday, November 9: Plain and fancy dress dance in Victory Hall. Marton, followed by adults' dance.
