MR. ATTLEE PLEASED THAT PHOTOS OF HANGINGS NOT TO BE PUBLISHED

Reed. 7.45 p.m. London, Oct. 29. The Prime Minister, Mr. Attlee, replying in the House of Commons yesterday, to a question about the release of pictures of the bodies of the condemned Nazi leaders, said he personally was opposed to publication. He added: “I am glad to see the great majority of British editors and publishers took the same view and refrained from publication.” Asked how a picture got in one Sunday paper, Mr. Attlee said: “I can express a wish, but I have no control over the Press in this matter. There would be strong opposition if the Government tried to impose Press censorship.”
