RAETIHI W-D.F.U. MONTHLY MEETING HELD

(0.C.) Raetihi, Oct. 30 After ordinary business was transacted at the monthly meeting of the Raetihi branch of the W.D.F.U., a roll call of "handy hints for housewives” was held and proved very entertaining. This was followed by a word building competition which was won by Mrs. C. D. Lynch. Another competition was won by Mrs. Holtham, the prize being a fruit cake donated by Mrs. McCann In aid of the leper funds. The trailing table L in the capable hands of Mrs. Frederick, which was also for the leper appeal, was liberally patronised, more than £lO being collected. The Parapara Valley Road hostesses served afternoon tea, terminating an enjoyable afternoon meeting. Competition winners were: Best bloom, Mrs. Mitchinson 1, Mrs. T. H. Brown 2, Mrs. McNie 3. Thrift article, Mrs. Bernard 1, Mrs. Ward 2, Mrs. Frederick 3. Vase of flowers, Mrs. Ward 1, Mrs. McNie 2. Mrs. MacLean 3. Babj- mittens, Mrs. R. Bell 1, Mrs. Ward 2. The November competitions will include: Best bloom, three plain scones, three heaviest hen eggs, saucer ot flowers, and peggy square (30 stitches on needles). The hostesses will be the Ruatiti, Middle and Ohura Road ladies.
