SHORTAGE OF WHEAT AND OTHER FOODS FOR POULTRY

(P:A.) Parliament Bldgs., Oct. 7. In the House of Representatives today, the Minister of Rehabilitaion, Mr. Skinner, answering an urgent question by Mr E. P. Aderman (Opp., New Plymouth) as to when more adequate supplies of wheat and other foods for poultry keepers would become available, said the only reason for the shortage of wheat was the irregular arrival of supplies from Australia.

To meet the reduction in supplies of pollard and bran resulting from the increased extraction rate for wheat, the Government* was taking steps to ensure equitable distribution by the manufacture of standard poultry mash, which is being distributed to districtaccording to the 1946 p <ultry census’figures. The mas* ts oeing distributed through thfe usual trade channels, and small keepers.are being treated on a similar basis td commercial men.
