(P.A.) Parliament Bldgs., Oct. 7. • The Acting Minister in Charge of the Patents Office, Mr. Jones, in the . Ifouse ot Representatives to-day, moving the committal of the Patents De;ijgns and Trademarks Amendment Bill, said some 5000 applications for registration oi inventions had accumulated. and there had been a great deUy due to the war and the lack of technical staff in dealing with them. The Bill gave a safeguard to the rights of those inventors who had applied for patents. Mr. R. M. Algie *(Opp., Remuera) said that there were serious implications in the clause in ' the Bill relating to public in--1 tpection of specifications of the inventions. Mr. Algie said if a Bill were allowed to pass containing this clause, there would be a sea of technical difficulties to overcome. He suggested that the Bill be referred back to the Statutes Revision Committee which by considering the clause, would save the time of the House. This course was adopted and the Bill was refered back.
