GERMAN GENERAL STAFF NOT LIKED
Recd. 10 p.m. New York, Oct. 7. Mr. Sumner Welles, broadcasting, predicted that the refusal of the Nuremberg Court to convict the German General Staff will have farreaching consequences to the detriment of world peace. The acquittal of the General Staff would be regarded by the masses of the German people as proof of their own contention that the General Staff is free of war guilt, and they would continue to look to it as an agency which alone could reconstitute a great and powerful Germany, capable of realising the ultimate German ambition to conquer and rule the world. Mr. Welles said he was sure that German officers would continue to plan and prepare the way for a new war. •
