DEATH OF WELL-KNOWN LEGAL AND BUSINESSMAN
(P.A.) Wellington, Oct. 7. The death occurred on Saturday of Mr. Alexander Kenneth Scobie MacKenzie, a well-known popular figure in legal, business and sporting circles. The late Mr. MacKenzie, who.was senior partner bn Bell, Gully, MacKenzie, Buxton and Blundell, was in his 70th year, but his death came unexpectedly. he having been at work on Friday and having returned from his usual daily swim on Saturday morning apparently in his usual good health. He was the eldest son of the late Mr. Scobie MacKenzie, of Kyeburn Station, Central Otago, and a nephew of the late Sir Francis Bell, founder of the firm.
The late Mr. MacKenzie was educated at the Boys’ High School. Dunedin, and Victoria College. Before joining the firm and becoming a partner in 1904, his interests outside the legal profession were wide both in business and sport. Ho held a number of directorates. Including (hose of the Grey River Dredging Company. E.S KA.’Electric (NZ.) Ltd.. Godfrey Phillips (N..ZL the 20th Century Fox Film Cornoration of N.Z.. and many others. Ho was a keen footballer and recently joined in a reunion at Athletic Park a few weeks ago of plavers who participated in the first match there 50 years ago. Tip was vice*
’’resident of the Wellington Rugby Cub. a member of the Racing Club, the Wellington Golf Club and the Wellesley Club. He is survived by his widow and two sons, Commander A. M. S. MacKenzie, of London, and H. D S MacKenzie. of Kyeburn. also two daughters, Mrs. Dennis Young, Wellington, and Mrs. Hilgendorff, Ashburton.
