PIG MEAT PRICES UP
NEW EXPORT SCHEDULE
(P.A.) Parliament Bldgs., Oct. 3. New prices for export pig meats were announced to-day by the Minister of Marketing. Mr. B. Roberts. Operating from November 1, the export schedule in the North Island will be:—
Porkers. 601 b to 1001 b, 8!d per lb. and baconers, 1211 b to 1601 b, B£d. The existing differentials for baconers weighing from 1611 b to 1751 b and from 1761 b to 1851 b will be maintained, but the winter price increases wifi not apply in future.
The Minister said that in a recent adjustment in bulk purchase contract prices arranged with Ihe British Government, an additional increase of 5 per cent, in the prices for pig meats was given for the express purnose of encouraging production for export. T 1 was hi line with this that the additional prices had been given producers.
The Minister said that the new prices should go a long way to giving the producer an incentive to increase pig meat production, and so enable exports lo Britain to be increased substantially.
