MANY BODIES SEEK GRANTS FOR RECREATION SCHEMES
(P.A.) Wellington, Oct. 3. Already just on 800 applications for grants under the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act had been received, said the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Parry, to-day, indicating the extent to tyhich the Government’s policy in making grants available had increased interest in recreation and physical welfare, especially since the return of many servicemen and women to civilian life.
Grants were available for recreational facilities and the purchase of equipment on the basis of £1 to £2 raised by the organisations themselves, the Minister said. No grant was made to cover administrative expenses, the payment of honoraria or the running of tournaments. Each application was considered on its merits after a full investigation had been made by the physical welfare officer of the department.
