LIVESTOCK REPORTS FORDELL SALE
The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited (incorpoated in England) report on the Fordell sale held on Tuesday:— “The yarding comprised of 1400 hoggets and 200 head of cattle. The quality of the hoggets submitted for sale were exceptionally good, and a very bright sale resulted, although the attendance of buyers was less than the representation over the past few weeks.
Top price for the day for ewe hoggets was secured by Mr. T. J. O'Leary, Fordell, for a pen of 74 hoggets which changed hands at 345. The same vendor received 33s for a pen of 60 wether hoggets. A further line of 270 ewe hogegts offered on account of Mr. M. Pritchard. No. 1 Line, were sold for 31s 6d. Altogether a
very bright sale of hoggets is recorded considering recent weather conditions.
Range of prices:—Ewe hoggets, good to 345; ewe hoggets, good medium 29s 9d to 31s 6d; wether hoggets, good to 33s 9d; wether hogggts, good medium to 28s 6d; wether hoggets, medium to 23s 2d: fat 2 ana 4-tooth maiden ewes, 31s 3d. In the cattle section of the sale the enquiry was equal to sales conducted during the past two weeks, and a total clearance of the 200 head of local cattle was affected. This has been the case with most cattle yarded recently. Forward conditioned cattle were not in evidence. The line of 31 4-year P.A. bullocks from “Craigdean” station realised £l4 15s, and the Hereford cattle offered on account of the same vendor made £l4 14s.
Prices obtained were:—3 and 4-»year P.A. steers to £l3 10s: 3 year P.A. steers £ll 7s to £ll 14s; 2 year P.A. steers £9 15s to £9 19s; empty P.A. cows, £6 to £7 13s.
