SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. G. Fear, of Palmerston North is visiting her daughter, Mrs. D. G. Frost, Wanganui East. Il will be regretted by the many friends of Mis. Charles J. Burr, of Aramoho, to know that she is seriously ill in a private hospital. .Mrs. A. C. Robertson, Papaiii, entertained a number of children at a very pleasant dance party last Friday, when there were about 50 guests present. Mis. N. Mackintosh, of Southland, Dominion vice-president of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Federated Farmers, who is staying with her daughter in Marton, visited Wanganui for the birthday meeting of the Wanganui branch of the W.D.E.F. and was the guest of Mrs. A. McPhail, St. John’s Hill. Miss Florence Sim, secretary of the Wanganui Y.W.C.A., left last night for Wellington and will travel to Picton to-day. Her visit to Piclon is to look at a camp site for Wanganui employed girls who intend camping during the Christmas holidays. Miss Sim will return on Sunday with two of the local Y.W.C.A. teams who arc going to Wellington for the week-end to take part in hockey and indoor basketball games arranged for the Y.W.C.A. sports. Teams from Auckland, Napier and other places will take part in the sports. To-morrow’s Jumble Sale. At a jumble sale to be held in Trinity Methodist Church Sunday Schoolroom to-morrow there will be produce and a good collection of old clothes for sale. Opening at 10.30 a.m., the sale will continue till 2.30 p.m.

Y.M.-Y.W.C.A. Drama Festival. Thirteen entries have been received for the forthcoming drama festival which will be held in the Repertory Theatre on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, September 23, 24 and 25. Similar functions have been held in past years by the Y.M.-Y.W.C.A., and owing to the large number of entries this j ear, it will be necessary to commence at 7 p.m. Some very good plays will be presented by junior and senior groups of Wanganui. This will be an opportunity to see the future of Wanganui Repertory. Mrs. A. Rankin will be the judge. ENGAGEMENTS. Howard—Morley— The engagement is announced between Lilian, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Morley, of Perth, to Kevin, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Howard, of Makirikiri. Howden—Wheeler.— The engagement is announced of Ruth, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Wheeler, Wellington, to Peter, son of Mrs. Douglas Wilson, Wanganui, and the late Peter Howden, Wellington.
