IMPROVED CONDITIONS FOR J-FORCE PERSONNEL

(P.A.) Wellington, Sept. 16. Colonel F. Waite, who is in Japan making investigations on behalf of the Government and National Patriotic Fund Board into the scale of amenities for personnel of the New Zealand contingent of the occupation force, has reported to the Prime Minister (Mr. P. Fraser) by cablegram. He states that ho has been impressed by the expressions of satisfaction by all ranks with the improvement, in conditions during the past, few weeks and adds that the bearing and dress of the New Zealand soldier compares favourably with those of other Allied personnel.

Colonel Waite also says that ample supplies of goods for Y.M.C.A. and institutes are now coming forward in large quantities as is club and institute furniture. Crockery, he said, will need to be sent from New Zealand at an early date
