COST OF TRANSIT CAMP IN CITY PROHIBITIVE

The question of establishing a transit camp in Wanganui with certain buildings in military camps which are no longer required, was considered recently by the Housing Committee of the City Council. Because of the prohibitive cost of establishment, however, the committee recommended that the council should not go ahead with the scheme. The committee, in a report adopted by the council on Tuesday, stated that, the Wanganui office of the Rehabilitat;on Department had referred to the housing position in the city. As a result consideration had been given Io an offer by lhe Governine.nl to make ridable free of cost certain buildings in military camps which were no longer required.
