OTAGO BEATS WAIRARAPA IN HIGH-SCORING RUGBY MATCH

(P.A.) Dunedin, Sept, 4. In a bright, high-scoring game, played in perfect weather, Otago defeated Wairarapa in an interprovmcial Rugby match to-day by 21 to 16. Playing the first match of its southern tour, Wairarapa fully extended Otago and with a little more finish might have won. The game was notable for solid forward play and for some sparkling individual work by the backs of either side, rather than for combined movements, but (here was plenty of incident to hold the interest of a crowd of 4000 to 5000.

Scorers for Otago were Ingram, Connolly, O’Connor and Cotting (2). Kawe converted three tries.

For Wairarapa, Pinfold scored two tries, which Mantipuka converted, and the latter also kicked two penalty goals.

words. If you remember nothing else I have said, take the pakeha by the hand and walk forward into the future with him in confidence for the good of both races. That is the only way in which our common destiny can be acheived.”
