JUVENILES SPRINT AT AVONDALE

ISpeeial) Auckland. Sept. 4. Eleven two-year-olds participated in a sprint from the halfmile barrier at Avondale on Thursday last and the display proved illuminating. Shirley Fox got away brilliantly and led all the way, although this filly and her companions were not pushed along over the final furlong ami a-half, it being still a trifle early in the season for the two-year-olds to be ridden out. For all that her time, 53 3/5 on the heavy turf, was really good. Shirley Fox, an Avondale Stakes candidate next Saturday, is a wellbuilt filly by the champion sire Foxbridge from Valdene and is thus a half-sister to Kirstymae. winner of the Debutant Stakes al Wanganui last spring. She looks like coming to hand very earlj. She is trained al Avondale by S. G. Lindsay.
