MARLBOROUGH BEATS BULLER
SEDDON SHIELD RETAINED (P.A.) Blenheim. Aug. 11. In a hard-fought game, dominated by two rugged packs, Marlborough (the holders) beat Buller by five t<> nil in the second Seddon Shield match of the season. Play was never spectacular, th? backs either crowding the wings through lack of penetration, or mishandling at the critical moment. Marlborough’s try was the culmination of a long seige on the challengers’ line late in the first spell, when Taylor, first five-eighth, who played a heady game throughout, received from a scrum and slipped from a lackle to dive over near the posts. He converted his own try. A feature of the game was a tussle between the fronk rankers, Hcgglun and Mumm, both of whom have made the South Island team. Marlborough held a distinct territorial advantage throughout.
